Looking at slides of blood cells, fecal matter and urine has taken on an entirely different perspective this school year thanks to new state-of-the-art equipment in the medical laboratory science lab at South 啵啵直播秀 State University. In July, the program received 28 microscopes and an innovative slide scanner as part of a $750,000 award from the South 啵啵直播秀 Department of Health, which was handling workforce development funds from the Centers for Disease Control, according to April Nelsen, the medical lab science clinical coordinator who put a proposal together for the health department.

Public health researchers from South 啵啵直播秀 State University鈥檚 Community Practice Innovation Center presented two posters at the American Public Health Association annual meeting, which was held in Minneapolis at the end of October.

Three researchers at the Community Practice Innovation Center at South 啵啵直播秀 State University recently compiled a 鈥�30 under 30鈥� list for public health in South 啵啵直播秀. The list was presented via poster presentation at the American Public Health Association annual meeting in October.

Established in 2018, the Avera Wokini Scholarship provides $5,000 annual scholarships to selected students at South 啵啵直播秀 State University who are enrolled members of federally recognized tribes and pursuing a degree in the health care field. The scholarship is renewable for up to five years.

South 啵啵直播秀 Pharmacists Association has selected South 啵啵直播秀 State University pharmacy educator Emily Van Klompenburg, of Bruce, as its Distinguished Young Pharmacist. Van Klompenburg, a 2015 Pharm.D. graduate from South 啵啵直播秀 State University, received the award at the association鈥檚 annual conference in Brookings Sept. 13. The award goes to a pharmacist less than 10 years in the practice who has participated in professional programs and community service.

Longtime South 啵啵直播秀 State University pharmacist Jodi Heins of Sioux Falls has been named pharmacist of the year by the South 啵啵直播秀 Pharmacists Association. Heins, a professor in the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions at SDSU, received the Hustead 啵啵直播秀 at the association鈥檚 annual gathering in Brookings Sept. 13.

The South 啵啵直播秀 Perinatal Quality Collaborative was recently founded at South 啵啵直播秀 State University, making South 啵啵直播秀 the final state in the Unites States to have its own perinatal quality collaborative.

The Thompson Center, South 啵啵直播秀鈥檚 most comprehensive counseling education center, and its supporters were celebrated at a grand opening event on the South 啵啵直播秀 State University campus Oct. 11.

Sierra Schmiedt wanted to stretch herself by learning in an unfamiliar setting. Tony Tran wanted to build on a favorable study abroad experience as a high school student and visit the country of his heritage. That is how the then-South 啵啵直播秀 State University pharmacy students ended up in Vietnam for five weeks for their final Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences rotation. For Schmiedt, getting there was the biggest challenge. For both of them, it was an unforgettable experience they wholly recommend to other pharmacy students.

South 啵啵直播秀 State University assistant professor 啵啵直播秀 Witzel has received a grant from the National Institutes of Health to study how daily stressors and emotional reactions contribute to long-term inflammation and other related health issues.
