24 Hours | 24 Experiences with the SDSU College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences

Join the SDSU College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences and the SDSU Foundation to celebrate One Day for STATE on Sept. 4! Everyone who makes a donation to a unit or department within the college during the timeframes below will be entered to receive the corresponding unique experience, regardless of donation amount.
This college-specific donation link will go live at 00:00:00 on Sept. 4 and remain live until 23:59:59.
All experiences must be redeemed by Sept. 1, 2026. Certain experiences will have additional limitations noted below. Time estimates for experiences are included when applicable. Winners will be notified in the weeks following One Day for STATE.
All questions regarding experiences may be directed toward Allie Arp, director of marketing and communications for the College of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences.
- 12-12:59 a.m. – Select a college department or unit to be featured in the January 2026 issue of "Growing South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã"
- (Due to production schedules, the unit selection will need to be submitted by Sept. 30, 2025.)
- 1-1:59 a.m. – Name a sheep at the SDSU Sheep Unit
- The unit reserves the right to refuse inappropriate or offensive name suggestions.
- 2-2:59 a.m. – Choose an FFA chapter to receive a college ambassador ice cream social
- Must be within South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã.
- 3-3:59 a.m. – Bovine Physical Exam 101 with Lisa Lunn, DVM
- The winner and up to two guests will be invited to join Lisa Lunn, director of the Professional Program in Veterinary Medicine at the SDSU Cow/Calf Unit, and learn the details of a bovine veterinary exam and what makes a cow healthy.
- 4-4:59 a.m. – Exclusive tour of SDSU Plant Diagnostic Clinic and meeting with Director/SDSU Plant Pathologist Madalyn Shires
- For winner and up to two guests.
- 5-5:59 a.m. – Private tour of the Animal Disease Research and Diagnostic Laboratory
- For winner and up to three guests.
- 6-6:59 a.m. – One-on-one with a weed specialist
- Winner gets a one-hour meeting with SDSU Extension Weed Management Specialist Eric Jones.
- 7-7:59 a.m. – Exclusive tour of a Department of Natural Resource Management collection of the winner’s choice
- Winner will choose one of the collections: mammal, bird, fish, educational herbarium or research herbarium.
- For winner and up to four guests.
- 8-8:59 a.m. – Guided tour of SDSU Swine Education and Research Facility
- For winner and up to four guests.
- 9-9:59 a.m. – Request the SDSU Extension Cybersecurity Trailer for a public event (West River)
- The event must be a public event.
- For this experience, the event must be in the western half of the state. An experience in the eastern half of the state is available from 7-7:59 p.m.
- 10-10:59 a.m. – Exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the SDSU Meat Counter
- For winner and up to two guests.
- 11-11:59 a.m. – Guided tour of SDSU Cow/Calf Facility
- For winner and up to four guests.
- 12-12:59 p.m. – Coffee with Cassady
- Winner gets a half-hour coffee with South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Corn Endowed Dean Joe Cassady.
- 1-1:59 p.m. – Guided tour of the Agricultural Experiment Station of the winner’s choosing.
- Options are Cottonwood Field Station (Philip), à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Lakes Research Farm (Pierre), Northeast Research Farm (South Shore), Oak Lake Field Station (Astoria), Southeast Research Farm (Beresford) or West River Research Farm (Sturgis).
- For winner and up to five guests.
- 2-2:59 p.m. – Two-minute head start at a you-pick event held at the Local Foods Education Center
- 3-3:59 p.m. – Choose an FFA chapter anywhere in the U.S. for the college ambassadors to virtually visit
- 4-4:59 p.m. – Guided McCrory Gardens tour with SDSU Extension Horticulture Specialist Sydney Trio
- Not eligible during special events.
- For winner and up to four guests.
- 5-5:59 p.m. – One-on-one with an entomologist
- Winner gets an hour meeting with SDSU Extension Field Crop Entomologist Adam Varenhorst.
- 6-6:59 p.m. – Name a calf from the SDSU Cow/Calf Facility
- The facility reserves the right to refuse inappropriate or offensive name suggestions.
- 7-7:59 p.m. – Request the SDSU Extension Cybersecurity Trailer for a public event (East River)
- The event must be a public event.
- For this experience, the event must be in the eastern half of the state. An experience in the western half of the state is available from 9-9:59 a.m.
- 8-8:59 p.m. – Coffee with an economist
- Winner gets an hour meeting with Director of Ness School of Management and Economics Joe Santos.
- 9-9:59 p.m. – Private tour of the Davis Dairy Plant
- Tour ends at the SDSU Dairy Bar.
- For winner and up to four guests.
- 10-10:59 p.m. – Visit to the SDSU Horse Unit
- For winner and up to four guests.
- 11-11:59 p.m. – Name the Department of Natural Resources Management display case cougar
- A beautiful taxidermied cougar was donated to the Department of Natural Resource Management for its entryway display case. The winner gets to choose the inaugural name of the cougar.
- Name will remain for a year.
