History of Brown Hall
Brown Hall is named in honor of George Lincoln Brown, who was called upon by the South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã Board of Regents to serve as acting president on six different occasions, the last being when he was in his 70s. Brown came to the university in 1897 and served as dean of faculty and dean of general science, but he is best remembered as an inspirational teacher. Brown started the first summer sessions and Farm and Home week at SDSU.
Brown Hall is part of the Grove area group of residence halls. It is located on Ninth Street directly south of Grove Hall and runs parallel to Mathews Hall. The four-story hall was built in 1959 and is a co-ed hall with separate wings for men and women.
