SDSU selected for artificial intelligence institute

South ֱ State University has been selected by the American Association of Colleges and Universities to participate in the
This online institute is designed to help universities respond effectively to the challenges and opportunities artificial intelligence presents for courses, curricula and higher education as a whole.
Last spring, SDSU initiated an effort to collaboratively develop strategy and solution recommendations that will aid the university in the application of AI and associated innovation. The institute will accelerate SDSU's knowledge of AI and will provide critical support to faculty and administrators as the university further develops and implements AI policies and plans across campus.
“It is an honor to have been selected for the 2025-26 American Association of Colleges and Universities AI, Pedagogy and the Curriculum Institute, and our participation is a valuable extension of our campuswide AI initiative started by Provost Dennis Hedge," said Vice Provost Victor Taylor, who is leading SDSU's participation at the institute. "The SDSU team is comprised of members from the SDSU AI working group, and we’ll be collaborating with units across campus throughout the year on a wide range of AI issues."
The American Association of Colleges and Universities is a highly regarded global membership organization that promotes innovation and excellence in higher education through its research, publications, events and programing. University teams were selected for the institute through a competitive application review process. Teams will spend the academic year working on AI-focused issues relating to pedagogy and assessment, academic integrity, AI literacy and AI applications for business and organizational practices.
As Taylor notes, workforce development is a high priority for SDSU, and AI is fundamentally changing the employment landscape for graduates. A firm understanding of AI across business sectors is now a point of emphasis for hiring managers. The institute will provide the SDSU team with training and resources to further enhance and support student learning and job readiness for a fast-paced, AI-integrated regional and global knowledge economy.
“SDSU is committed to preparing our students for a world in which fundamental knowledge of AI and its applications are essential,” said Hedge, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Participation in this institute will not only accelerate our work, but it will also foster innovation within the AI landscape and that will be very beneficial for SDSU graduates.”
