Formerly the director of South à£à£Ö±²¥Ðã's Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) and dean of the College of Natural Science and Mathematics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Doerner has served on numerous education boards in the Midwest. At SDState, he previously served as dean of the Graduate School, interim vice president for research and economic development and interim dean of the College of Natural Sciences between 2012 and 2019. Doerner oversaw the approval of many master's and doctoral programs, expanded collaboration of graduate programs within the state, and improved the policy framework for graduate education. Most recently, Doerner was a professor of biotechnology at Mount Marty University.
"As SDState works toward Carnegie R1 recognition, supporting our faculty, staff and students' research is paramount," said Daniel Scholl, SDState's vice president for research and economic development. "Our core value of excellence includes excellent public trust and accountability. Dr. Doerner's work will help SDState researchers to be confident that the compliance and integrity of their work contributes to public trust and accountability."
In his new position at SDState, Doerner will play a key role in supporting a culture of ethical and compliant research across the university. As the research integrity officer, he ensures that research activities meet federal and state regulations while also fostering accountability, transparency and responsible conduct of research.
"Kinchel draws on many different higher education leadership experiences to help grow SDState's research compliance and integrity to meet the evolving needs," Scholl added.
Doerner began his role Sept. 22.
