College of Nursing adds five new employees
The South 啵啵直播秀 State University College of Nursing added five new employees to its rolls this fall, with the new faces spread out between the college鈥檚 sites in Brookings, Sioux Falls and Rapid City.
Coming on board to kick off the fall semester were:
Uzma Zaidi, professor, Brookings

Zaidi, originally from Lahore, Pakistan, earned her bachelor鈥檚 and master鈥檚 degrees in psychology from Bahauddin Zakariya University, Multan, Pakistan, in 1995 and 1997; and her post-magistral diploma and Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Karachi, Pakistan, in 2000 and 2008.
She has worked as a clinical psychologist in Karachi, Pakistan; as an assistant professor at universities in Pakistan; and most recently as assistant, associate and full professor of clinical psychology and program director at Princess Nourah Bint Abdulrahman University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Zaidi was drawn to SDSU and started this August 鈥渂ecause of its commitment to student success, community engagement and research. I admire how the university strikes a balance between innovation and a strong connection to the region. The opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking institution in a collaborative academic setting really aligns with my professional goals.鈥 As professor, she teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses and is involved in subcommittees and research activities.
She and her husband have two sons, and she enjoys reading and research, writing for her blog depressioncure.net, watching Netflix, walking and exercise, cooking and exploring new place.
Abby Seydel, assistant professor, Sioux Falls

Seydel, originally from Brandon, earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Augustana University in 2018 and her Ph.D. in nursing from SDSU in 2025. In the past, she鈥檚 worked as a pediatric nurse at Sanford Children鈥檚 Hospital in inpatient and outpatient settings, and most recently she was a case manager for South 啵啵直播秀鈥檚 newborn screening program.
She was drawn to work for SDSU because of her own experience here as a graduate student. 鈥淚 had an incredibly positive experience, and the faculty were so supportive and shaped my professional and personal growth. That experience has truly left a lasting impression on me and inspired me to want to be on the other side of that journey and for me to be the one available to support and mentor students 鈥 while also continuing to interact with the current faculty here to help support me in my next steps,鈥 she said.
Now Seydel is teaching in the undergraduate nursing program in Sioux Falls and hoping to expand on the work of her dissertation.
Seydel and her husband have two children and a dog, and she loves spending time with family, cooking and trying new recipes.
Adam Norenberg, clinical assistant professor in graduate nursing, Sioux Falls

Norenberg, originally from Fremont, Nebraska, earned his Bachelor of Arts in nursing in 2008 from Augustana College and his Doctor of Nursing Practice from SDSU in 2016. He鈥檚 worked at SDSU for two years as an adjunct faculty member and joined the faculty full time this fall.
His on-the-job nursing experience includes working as a registered nurse at Sanford Health in various roles including the neonatal intensive care unit, pediatric intensive care unit, adult ICU and ER. He was also a member of the pediatric flight team for Sanford prior to finishing DNP school.
As a nurse practitioner, he worked in Sanford鈥檚 emergency department and with the adult hospitalist service for two years prior to transitioning to Veterans Affairs, where he has been for the past 7.5 years with the gastroenterology department and most recently the pulmonary/sleep medicine department.
Norenberg said his time at SDSU, both as a student and an adjunct faculty member, influenced his decision to join the faculty full time. 鈥淚 really enjoyed my time in the DNP program with SDSU, as I felt that the faculty and the curriculum did a great job of preparing the students to enter the practice. I have also always enjoyed teaching and have served as a preceptor for new nurses, as well as taken student in my clinical practice.鈥
Now he works with graduate students in the advanced assessment courses, as well as assisting those students in preparing their DNP projects.
He and his wife, a physician in Sioux Falls, have three children, and he enjoys being active outside playing games and sports with family and friends, as well as taking trips when time allows.
Diana Mangubat, instructor, Rapid City

Mangubat, a native of Johnson City, New York, earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, in 2006 and 2022, respectively.
She started her job teaching undergraduate nursing courses including labs, various population health sections and concept syntheses classes at SDSU in June and said she was drawn to the university because of its quality nursing program.
Mangubat has extensive work experience at the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, from 2007-2017 and 2019-2021, and with the Air Force Reserve Command from 2010-2017. She comes from a military family, and her and her husband have two children. She enjoys being outside or reading.
Anastasia Hansen, nursing simulation technician, Brookings

Hansen grew up in a military family living in various states and countries. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Bachelor of Arts in German from South 啵啵直播秀 State University, followed by her Master of Science in health science from Trident University International.
She鈥檚 a retired nurse (from the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Public Health Service), holding a variety of positions ranging from the ambulatory procedure unit to clinics to developing and supporting a health care student program.
Hansen has worked for SDSU since July 2023, first in the Department of Animal Science before joining the College of Nursing.
鈥淚 work with the nursing simulation team in Brookings to support nursing students learning in a simulation environment. We set up the skills lab, maintain equipment and support the nursing instructors,鈥 Hansen said. 鈥淲hen my family moved to Brookings in July 2023, I was looking forward to once again being part of the SDSU community and supporting learning opportunities for students.鈥
Hansen is married with two children, two cats and a dog and enjoys crocheting and reading.
