Free math tutoring!

The Math Help Center provides free tutoring for students taking MATH 101, 103, 114, 115, 120, 121, 123, 125 at SDSU. (STAT 281 tutoring is available at certain times). The Math Help Center is located in Chicoine Architecture, Mathematics and Engineering Hall, Room 292.

We now provide both appointments and walk-in tutoring. 

Appointments are made via ConnectState.

Spring 2025 – Walk-in tutoring 

(Note: On April 17, we will close at 4 p.m. in anticipation of the long weekend) 

  • Monday to Thursday: noon-6 p.m.
  • Friday: noon-4 p.m.

We are closed whenever classes are canceled. We will post special hours for finals week. 

Spring 2025 – STAT 281 Hours

Help in STAT 281 is available in the Math Help Center on a walk-in basis when a statistics-qualified tutor is available. 

  • Monday and Wednesday: 1-4 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: noon-6 p.m.

We hire tutors who have successfully completed Calculus II and who have shown an ability to be patient and communicate well.

Please list at least one reference who is a faculty member in mathematics or statistics.

Generally, we interview applicants for each semester at the end of the previous semester.

Appointment Help

Making an Appointment via ConnectState

  • Click the blue "Schedule an Appointment" button in the upper right.
  • Select Tutor from the first dropdown and find "Math Help Center Tutoring." Then select your math course.
  • Pick a date and click on Find Available Time.
  • Under Staff, select your tutor's name or leave it blank.
  • Click on your selected tutoring time.
  • Use the comment box to let your tutor know more about your reason for meeting.
  • Select whether you want to have a text or email reminder.
  • Click "Schedule." You should see a confirmation page.

Appointment Notes

  • Cancel an Appointment: In the “ConnectState” dashboard, go to “My Appointments,” click the appointment and click “Cancel Appointment.”
  • Advance Notice: You must sign up 12 hours in advance of your session.
  • Location: You should get a confirmation email which will include the location of your meeting. The location will usually be the counter just outside of AME 292, but if you don’t see your tutor, check for them in AME 292.
  • No-shows: If you have two “no-shows,” you must contact the Math Help Center coordinator by email at William Alsaker before you can sign up for appointments again.
