Attendance at sessions is voluntary. For you, it’s a chance to get together with people in your class to compare notes, discuss important concepts, develop strategies for studying and test yourself before your professor does. That way, when it’s exam time, you’ll be ready. At each session, you will be guided through this material by your Supplemental Instruction leader, a competent student who has previously taken the course.

If you attend Supplemental Instruction sessions regularly, statistics show you’ll earn a better grade, improve understanding of course content and study more efficiently.

Supplemental Instruction is offered for the following courses:

• Biology 101, 108, 151, 221, 325
• Chemistry 106, 112, 114

What’s a Supplemental Instruction leader?

Have you ever wished you could do something over, knowing what you know now? Supplemental Instruction leaders are prepared to share with you what they have learned over the years about how to study. They know the course content and are excited to help guide you through it. They’ll be in class with you every day, hearing what you hear and reading what you read. What they don’t do is lecture; their job is to help you think about the lectures you hear and the books you read and then put it all together during the Supplemental Instruction review sessions. Supplemental Instruction can help you learn course material more effectively and more efficiently.

Just fill out the application and distribute two recommendation forms to faculty. One of the recommendation forms should be sent to a faculty member who teaches in the subject area you are interested in leading Supplemental Instruction.
