SDSU offers two TRIO programs that support first-generation and income-eligible students in college access, preparation and success. Both programs provide proactive support systems that increase the probability of student success and graduation from college.

TRIO programs are college opportunity programs that advocate for college access and success. Programs are funded by the U.S. Department of Education, and participants must meet eligibility requirements in federal guidelines.

Participant Responsibilities

Commitment to the program extends through high school and college. During this time, we work with students individually and in small groups to address their needs, develop their academic potential and identify and meet realistic goals.

To help ensure your success in the program, each Upward Bound student must make a commitment to:

  • Attend twice-a-month Saturday sessions September through May, after-school tutoring sessions, field trips to colleges and universities and the six-week summer academic program on the SDSU campus (including an out-of-state college tour).
  • Maintain contact with Upward Bound staff members throughout the academic year.
  • Take appropriate but challenging classes each semester.
